We believe life is full of sticky moments—from the intriguing to the absurd. Hence our new endeavor, Sticky Moments by Knock Knock! We’re building a gallery of submissions from fans like you, because we all know you’re chock-full of these particular moments and we would like to spread the funny.

Target Paper Mousepads, Sticky Notes, and Notepads

The end of summer can be a bummer (please forgive the cutesy rhyming). If you’re feeling overly swamped with work, now is as good a time as any to reorganize your thoughts before plowing through the rest of the year! Luckily, We teamed up with Target to bring you savvy paper pieces to help you get back on track in style.

Introducing Knock Knock's custom line at Target, featuring paper mousepads, sticky notes, and notepads so you can organize in style!

With a design reminiscent of vintage airmail, we fashioned these paper mousepads, sticky notes, and pads with svelte slanted stripes in soft colors. We played with a few of the titles from our own signature items, but made sure to keep the clever content intact.

So whether you’re knee-deep in tasks at home or in the office, these pieces have a can-do attitude that’ll keep that smile on your face!

Wanna get to organizing? Perfecto. Find this line of goodies exclusively at a Target near you.

Meet Illustrator Kate Bingaman Burt!

Turning Classic Knock Knock Stuff Into Hand-Lettered Art

Meet Kate! (Photo courtesy of Kate Bingaman Burt.)

With a swish of a pen to paper, illustrator Kate Bingaman Burt creates bite-sized, black and white masterpieces on a daily basis. Her muse? Any item she purchases on that specific day. Her seven-year archive of drawings includes bargain Walgreens sunglasses, a copy of Steve Martin’s Let’s Get Small album, and most recently, a Hulu Plus subscription for $7.99 a month. Her daily purchase drawings, which fall under the umbrella of her Obsessive Consumption project, puts a refreshing twist on our society’s consumerist habitude—reinterpreted and documented with a whimsical and personable touch. And even before her Obsessive Consumption project came to fruition, Kate hand-drew her own credit card statements each month. (See how she easily stole our hearts?)

As fans of her work and multitasking skills (see question number four below), you can probably imagine how completely psyched we were to have Kate on board for our new Hand-Lettered line, available right now, FOKKErs! Excited is an understatement.

Our new Hand-Lettered line, featuring some of our favorite Paper Mousepads, Knock Knock Pads, and sticky notes—all illustrated by the wonderful Kate Bingaman Burt.

To get to know the master behind the beautified squiggles, we asked Kate six questions. She kindly answered them in her signature style—completely by hand!

More to show and tell:

Lastly, we can’t really choose our favorite product from the new line, so tell us yours in a comment!

If Twitter Shut Down . . .

Yesterday, the Stop Online Piracy Act and Protect Intellectual Property Act web protests made us think about what life would like be if Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, and our beloved I Can Has Cheezburger? were in jeopardy’s chokehold. It made us glum. Thinking of all the websites, the amount of Social Media Citation Nifty Notes and Tweets & Status Updates for All Occasions that will be left untouched and unused. Sigh.

Then we saw this tweet from an article on the Huffington Post:

Now, that’s not a bad idea. It just made us appreciate our Paper Tweet Nifty Note that much more. Especially these Paper Tweets (we plucked a handful) that we found floating around the interwebs:

1.

Hey @Nrek, we do stuff too!

2.

We agree.

3.

We do like this.

4.

Noted.

5.

Well said. And in only twenty-one characters.

. . . Made our day.

5 Stocking Stuffer Ideas For You

. . . With Cats!

Please note: We were going to write the standard “check out these stocking stuffers” post, but then we asked ourselves, “What do people really care about? What do people truly want to see?” This is the result.

Our products make great stocking stuffers for your family, friends, and acquaintances. But don’t take it from us—take it from these cool kitties!

1. Tweets & Status Updates for All Occasions. As the youngster of our Lines for All Occasions books, this one is chock-full of fresh posts for the social media buff who can’t seem to stop hashtagging their life away. A little insider’s info: Meredith, one of our writers and editors who wrote the bulk of the book in three months, said the hardest part of the process was finding tweets related to the weather. (But her favorite part was looking up celebrity tweets!)

2. 100 Hugs Tickets. A booklet filled with 100 tickets (hence the name) is perfect for a quick, hand-off present. (But be sure you’re the receiver of the coveted golden ticket!)

3. High Five Nifty Note. This mighty Nifty Note is great for gifting to your group of buddies. Make sure they tear, share, and spread the compliments.

4. WTF Stamp. Have your loved ones remember this holiday season with three letters that say it all. Keep calm and stamp on.

5. Slang Flashcards. Who can resist up-to-date colloquialisms? Your colleagues will think you’re hella fresh.

Michal Broomfield, Customer Service Specialist!

For our weekly “In It for the Money” feature, we’ll be introducing you to the kick-ass Knock Knockers who make everything go, from creative to sales to logistics to . . . everything! Note—everybody answers the first five questions. After that, they have about fifteen wild-card questions from which to choose.

1. Name and title? Michal Broomfield, customer service specialist.

Relaxing on the sand. Contrary to popular belief, this was actually not taken at the Knock Knock office.

2. Originally from? Whittier, California.

3. What the hell do you do all day? I help provide customer service to Knock Knock’s retail, wholesale, and international customers. I’m also the first face you’ll see when you walk into the office, so you can only imagine the amount of knock-knock jokes I hear on a daily basis!

4. Favorite thing about working at Knock Knock? I love the humor! There’s something about working with sticky notes that say “Duh” and “You’re My Bitch,” or pulling out your trusty I’m Going to Die Journal for weekly department meetings, that lightens the mood and promotes a more casual work environment.

5. Favorite hobbies outside work? I like taking road trips and going to happy hour with friends. I’m also practically addicted to any type of shopping: online shopping, catalog shopping, clothes shopping, shoe shopping. But my biggest weakness is bargain shopping! I don’t know what it is—I just can’t pass up a good deal.

6. Did your professional life exist before Knock Knock? Yes. I’ve been working since I was fifteen years old, so I’ve had many different jobs in the past.

7. Favorite Knock Knock product? I think the Slang Flashcards are hilarious.

8. What’s in your music rotation right now? The Erykah Badu station on Pandora. It mixes jazz with hip-hop, neo-soul, and the blues—I love it!

Ah. "Sangria Sundays" treat me just right. (And here's my boyfriend's patio—do I really have to be at work right now?)

9. Except for bills, what do you spend the most money on? Hair products. I’m obsessed with hair repair, hair moisturizer, anti-snap, anti-frizz, natural shine—you name it, I’ve bought it.

10. Favorite place to sit back and relax? My boyfriend’s place downtown. The patio is the best place to relax with a good book or magazine, while enjoying the Los Angeles sun. Not to mention the view of the city and “Sangria Sunday” summer parties!

11. Food or drink you couldn’t live without? San Pellegrino Limonata. I love the way it tastes and the way it sounds saying it =)!

12. Song you would pick as your theme song? One of my favorite songs is “In a Sentimental Mood” by Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. I would pick this as the theme song for how I view life—it starts out slow, mellow, and timid, picks up as you get used to it, and slows down for a smooth ending.

And the Winner Is . . .

The Results of our Blog Sticky Note Contest!

Top: Our ballots. Bottom: Designer Alexis choosing her favorites (note the savvy hand placement, preventing others from eaveslooking).

First we’d like to thank the Academy. But a close second goes out to every single FOKKer who submitted an idea. Like your kindergarten teacher said,  you’re all winners in our book. (Take note: that’s how you get at least two clichés in one short paragraph.)

This was the first time we reached out to civilians for creative fodder, and it proved much harder than we’d anticipated to select the winning concept. We decided to let democracy rule: we took an all-company vote (incentivized with milk and cookies) for the top three. After putting everything in an Excel spreadsheet to calculate the exact mathematical rankings, the idea with the highest average won.

Drumroll . . .

The winner of our Sticky Note contest is . . .

Rebecca Osmolski!

Here’s her idea:

Title: Seriously?

Rebecca’s Description: Along the lines of the WTF and DUH Sticky Notes, you could have one that says “SERIOUSLY” (all caps or not, I don’t think it matters). I say that word all the time, whether as a question of “Why would you do that?” (“Seriously?”) or like “WTF” (“Seriously?!?”), or even when you’re just downright serious (“Seriously!”). This sticky note would be perfect for all occasions!

Please note that there were two ideas similar to the Rebacca’s: “SRSLY?” and “Seriously?” Regarding the first, our team opted for the spelled-out version instead. And the latter’s entry didn’t include a description, so according to the rules it was disqualified.

Second place goes to . . .

Katharine Chen!

Title: I’ve Borrowed . . .

Katharine’s Description: Have it say “Thank you, I’ve Borrowed . . .” and have checkboxes next to standard office supplies, like pencil, pen, lunch money, stapler, tape gun, umbrella, chair, highlighter, ruler, scissors.

Third place goes to . . .

Danielle Howland!

Title: Parents’ notes to kids

Danielle’s Description: Preschool and school-age sticky notes for lunchboxes or agendas. I am a mom who’s always writing on little blank sticky notes and surprising my kids in their lunchboxes or agendas. This would be a quick way to do so, with notes such as: “I love you,” “Have a great day,” “I know you’ll do great on your test,” “I’ll pick you up,” “I’ll be picking you up early,” and “Remember to go home with _________ .”

Although the above winners will receive tangible prizes, we do have a few honorable mentions that we’d like to acknowledge with virtual high-fives:

Congrats to our winners: Rebecca, Katharine, and Danielle!

1. Kristen’s idea came in fourth (Kristen, we appreciated your doodles!):

Title: Doodle Here

Kristen’s Description: A sticky note that looks like the back of an envelope. Because who hasn’t doodled on the back on an envelope when talking on the phone?

2. Angela Marron’s idea came in fifth (and Angela, your voice is oh-so Knock Knock):

Title: The Deets

Angela’s Description: With checkboxes for importance and a box at the bottom for “More Deets to Follow.” This is born out of watching kids’ shows and hearing the phrase, “I’ll text you with the ‘deets’” ten times a day.

And lastly, a few entries went above and beyond what we asked for—they designed prototypes! God, you’re all so cool.

1. Janine Kamouh’s idea

Title: Operation Dessert Storm

Janine’s Description: This is a fun sticky note for work or home when you get a late-night craving and want to summon a roommate in a funny way. My younger sister and I have been referring to our late-night snack runs as Operation Dessert Storm for years. It’s time the rest of the world got in on the mission! Sweets evoke a battle of willpower. Let the war begin!

2. Laura Stewart’s idea

Title: Make Up Your Mind

3. Nicki Pepple’s idea

Title:  Day Drinking?

4. Nicole Boesen Myszka’s idea (note: this was Paco and Maisie’s favorite, though they didn’t see the necessity for it because they think it should be patently clear)

Title: My Dog Thinks

5. Nikki Brown’s idea

Title: You Forgot

Yo. Thank you, all. This was an amazingly fun project for us folks at Knock Knock. We hope you all had fun, too. Congrats to all of the winners—we’ll be in touch soon!

For our weekly “In It for the Money” feature, we’ll be introducing you to the kick-ass Knock Knockers who make everything go, from creative to sales to logistics to . . . everything! Note—everybody answers the first five questions. After that, they have about fifteen wild-card questions from which to choose.

This is actually a typical day for me. Shane, our production manager, captures me in "the cube," where he shoots all of our product images. I, of course, am a product of loveliness.

1. Name and title? Alexis Lowery, graphic designer (or “Alexis Is So Rad” on Words With Friends.)

2. Originally from? Painted Post, New York (right next to Corning, where they make the glass).

3. What the hell do you do all day? In a nutshell, I make things look pretty. I research, sketch, design, and redesign—stretching the limits of Knock Knock standards.

4. Favorite thing about working at Knock Knock? I finally have my own business cards (die-cut no less) and I don’t have to get on a freeway to get to work.

I was voted MVP by my dodgeball team, Beauty and the Beast Mode, and I also won $300 in a tattoo contest—all in the same night. (As you can see, my fingernails were painted green, foreshadowing my winnings.)

5. Favorite hobbies outside work? Dodgeball, lacrosse, decorating cupcakes, people watching, and naps.

6. Did your professional life exist before Knock Knock? If you consider expediting in a kitchen (running a kitchen) professional.

7. Pet peeves? Waiting and the iPhone’s autocorrect.

Waiting is my nemesis. (i.e., Disneyland, the happiest place on earth: how about calling it “stand around and wait for hours to ride five rides all day”? Whoever invented the Fastpass, please add me on Facebook.)

On autocorrect: sometimes I leave words spelled wrong because it’s funnier. I just tried to write, “I was butthurt.” iPhone’s translation insisted, “I was hermits”—not close. I also once got “cholo” instead of “churro.” It’s similar, but not really.

Also, I’m an overcommunicator. I call, text, email, and Facebook as much as I desire (and generally to excess). When other people don’t immediately respond to my endless musings, I get annoyed.

8. What’s currently in your music rotation right now? It varies (greatly). Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, AFI, Blaqk Audio, Volbeat, Mastodon, Alexisonfire, Alkaline Trio, City and Colour, Band of Horses, The Sounds, Bon Iver, and Blitzen Trapper.

9. Favorite website? My own (krop.com/alexislowery) and pinterest.com.

10. Favorite Knock Knock product? Sticky Notes. I use them every day. Currently on my desk and in constant rotation when passing files to coworkers are I’m a Dork, Next Steps, Status Update, To Do, Nag Note, and when all else fails, Or Else.

A peek at my office space. Notice the variety of Pantone colors that line my computer screen. I also love cupcakes, but my desk's cupcake looks like it's hiding.

11. If you were granted one wish, what would it be? A kitchen in my studio apartment. Haha, ummm . . . if I got one wish, I would send my parents on an Alaskan cruise. They are the best . . . and maybe they’d take me with them. I would wear a (faux) fur hat with earflaps and check out some polar bears.

12. Favorite place to sit back and relax? My sister’s hammock on Cocles Beach, Costa Rica.

13. Food or drink you couldn’t live without? Cheese. I will not go into detail.

But before you roll your eyes and laugh at the impropriety of this request, we’re pulling a quid pro quo on you fantabulous FOKKers.

This survey is now closed. Any survey filled out after October 31 will not receive complimentary DUH Sticky Notes.

Calling All Clever FOKKers: What’s Your Sticky Note Idea?

It’s Our Monthly Blog Contest!

Comments:

These are our newest Sticky Notes. Will yours one day be among them?

Even though we have a huge archive of ideas here at Knock Knock, this month we want to hear from all you inventive geniuses out there to come up with a new Knock Knock Sticky Note!

The winning idea will turn into a real Knock Knock Sticky Note! (Cross our hearts, hope to die.)

We’ve already received product ideas in the past from creative FOKKers out there, but we’ve never had a mechanism by which to accept and/or use them, what with the annoying legalities and all. So this is a great opportunity for those of you who have specifically said, “Gee golly gosh, this would work perfectly as a Knock Knock Sticky Note!”

Breakdown of prizes:

First Place:

  1. The winner’s Knock Knock Sticky Note idea will be put into development, and he or she will have the chance to work with us on finalizing the idea as it moves toward actual manufacturing. Not to mention that the winner will be credited with the note’s creation online!
  2. $100 in Knock Knock product. Hell yeah, right?

Second Place:

  1. Ten Knock Knock Sticky Notes (your choice which ones).

Third Place:

  1. Five Sticky Notes (your choice which ones).

Rules to enter:

  1. Because this involves product ideas which will be ours forever and ever, whether or not you win, it’s important to review all of our legal mumbo-jumbo. You must read our Blog Terms of Use (halfway down in the general Terms of Use). Here’s most of the relevant stuff:

  1. Note that this contest is for our three-by-three-inch Sticky Notes in either Knock Knock’s Cubicle Notes or Keep It Simple styles.
  2. Submit a title of your Sticky Note idea and a brief description to blog@knockknockstuff.com

Due Date: October 10, by 4:00 p.m. PST. This contest is now closed.

We’ve upped the ante with this blog contest, so we cannot wait to see what you all come up with!
